Healing Crisis

A healing crisis occurs when the body is purging more than it can process -- physically, emotionally or spiritually. It can be a normal part of the healing process. The medical term for a healing crisis is the “Herxheimer Reaction.”  This occurs when the cells release toxins into circulation, but the elimination organs (skin, lungs, liver, kidneys, bladder & GI tract) are not able to eliminate them quickly enough.  The toxins remain in circulation and can affect the body.

Symptoms May Include:

  • nausea

  • poor coordination

  • headaches

  • fatigue

  • fever

  • body aches

  • a return of specific recent symptoms

  • a recurrence of much older symptoms

  • acute depression

How to Help Your Body Heal

Drink Plenty of Water

Drink at least 80 ounces of high quality, filtered water a day during detox. You can add 1-2 tablespoons of Lemon juice or Apple cider vinegar to help with detoxification.

Sleep and Rest

Sleep is super critical to the healing and detoxification.  Sleeping10 -12 hours during the healing crisis processes can be transformative.

Stretching, Gentle Yoga & Walking

Moving the lymph and getting oxygen to your cells helps the body to detoxify. A chiropractic adjustment may also help.

Healing Foods

Bone broth reduces inflammation and boosts immunity.  Garlic and onions are anti-microbial and are loaded with sulfur compounds and the flavonoid quercetin. Bitter herbs like parsley, cilantro, dandelion, ginger, and milk thistle have powerful liver detoxification enhancing properties. Avoid processed foods, sugar, caffeine and alcohol.

Healthy microorganisms help to neutralize toxins and balances gut microbiome. Consider a high quality probiotic like Garden of Life Primal Defense or ReNew Life Ultimate Flora. Ask your health care professional for advice.

Consider Activated Charcoal

Charcoal will bind and remove an incredible toxin load. Choose a high quality supplement preferably from organic coconut husk. Be sure to significantly increase water consumption as activated charcoal can cause dehydration. Also, take it a minimum of 90 minutes to two hours prior to meals, supplements and prescription medications. Consult with a healthcare professional before taking.

Detox Baths

First take a shower and give your body a good scrub to release the current energetic state. Next, take a hot bath for 30 minutes to an hour with a cup or two of Epsom salts. You can also add Tibetan sea salt, baking soda, betonite clay, hydrogen peroxide, apple cider vinegar and several drops of essential oil. The most common detoxifying essential oils are eucalyptus, lavender, peppermint, frankincense, bergamot, rose or any citrus oil.
